Creative Commons

The process of adding another family court judge for the Somerset region is moving along.

The filing period opened Monday for candidates seeking the new judgeship that covers Pulaski, Lincoln, and Rockcastle counties.

The 28th Judicial Circuit has the heaviest family court caseload in the state.

The Commonwealth Journal reports that current Family Court Judge Marcus Vanover closed more than 3,800 cases in 2017.

The average for family court judges last year was about 1,700.

Candidates for the new judgeship must filed with the Kentucky Secretary of State's Office by August 7.
