WKU All-American Carlisle Towery Dies

WKU’s first two-time All-American basketball player has passed away. Carlisle Towery was 92 years old. Towery earned All-American honors his junior and senior seasons at WKU, in 1940 and 1941. Playing under legendary coach E.A. Diddle, Towery was the first Hilltopper to score 1,000 points, and he averaged a then-record 17.1 points a game as a senior.

Defensive Effort Leads WKU Men's Basketball Over Brescia

Aleksejs Rostov had a career high 16 points and eight rebounds against Brescia.

A stingy WKU defense held Brescia (Ky.) without a field goal for 13:16 at one point Saturday night at E.A. Diddle Arena, helping the Hilltoppers improve to 4-2 on the season with a 74-46 win over the Bearcats. WKU limited Brescia to just 11 field goals in the game and only four inside the three-point line.

Just one week after seeing a fourth-quarter lead evaporate, the Western Kentucky University football team scored 15 unanswered points over the final 12:44 to come back for a 25-24 victory over North Texas Saturday on Senior Day at Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium.
