WKU Student Who Jumped Out of Dorm Window Dies

Officials at Western Kentucky University say a student who jumped from a sixth-floor window of a residence hall has died.

WKU officials told WBKO-TV that 19-year-old Benjamin Gogins of Illinois died Tuesday at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville.

The freshman jumped from the window at Pearce Ford Tower early Saturday morning. Emergency crews found him still breathing and he was flown to Vanderbilt.

Campus police are investigating, but have found no evidence that drugs or alcohol were involved.

WKU says the dorm has quarter-inch thick-tempered glass windows and a safety mechanism that only allows them to open three inches. However, police say the glass was broken in the window that the student jumped from.
