Expected Sumner County Student Increase Fizzles Following Funding Fight

A Middle Tennessee school system is apparently not getting a large increase in students, which was a focus in a budget fight. The Sumner County schools delayed opening for 10 days this month as the school board and the Sumner County Commission deadlocked over more education funding.

Tennessee Judge Upholds State Photo Voter ID Law

A judge in Nashville has held Tennessee's voter identification statute constitutional. The Tennessean reported the ruling by Davidson County Chancery Court Judge Carol McCoy. After about three hours of oral arguments Wednesday, McCoy ruled against civil rights attorney George Barrett, who contended the state constitution requires only proof of legal age, residency and registration.

Three Airlines Add Flights to Nashville Airport

Three major airlines have announced additional flights to the Nashville International Airport with new routes to Boston, Cleveland and Los Angeles. The airport said Southwest Airlines is adding another daily nonstop flight to Boston Logan starting in February. United Airlines is adding two daily nonstop flights to Nashville from its Cleveland hub starting on Dec. 19.
