Kentucky has fired football coach Joker Phillips, a day after an embarrassing loss to Vanderbilt. Athletic Director Mitch Barnhart announced Phillips' dismissal Sunday in an open letter on the athletic department's web site.

The WKU football team hopes to defend its home turf—and Sun Belt conference title chances—when it hosts Middle Tennessee Thursday night at L.T. Smith stadium. A win against the Blue Raiders would boost the Hilltoppers’ chances of winning the conference, which would result in an automatic bowl bid.
The WKU men's basketball team opened exhibition play Monday evening at E.A. Diddle Arena by beating Campbellsville 84-46. Four Hilltoppers scored in double figures, led by George Fant's 20 and Jamal Crook's 16. Fant added eight rebounds and five steals, and T.J. Price had 14 points and seven rebounds.
