U-S Senate Approves Transportation Bill

Washington, D.C. – The U-S Senate has approved a transportation bill
that could result in more than 535 million dollars in
federal highway funds for Kentucky. The Fiscal
Year 2004 Transportation Spending Bill passed
by a vote of 91 to 3.

Kentucky Army National Guard Unit to Return Early

Frankfort, KY – The Kentucky Army National Guard says the 223rd
Military Police Company will be home next month. The
unit had originally expected to return in February.

Funeral Service Scheduled at Fort Campbell

Fort Campbell, KY – Officials at Fort Campbell say a funderal service
will be held Friday, October 24th for Lieutenant
Colonel Kim Orlando. He and two other military
police officers were killed last week in Karbala, Iraq.

The service is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. at Memorial
Chapel at Fort Campbell. The funeral is open to the
public, but the internment service at Nashville
National Cemetary is open only to friends and
family.

One Westbound Lane Still Closed on Interstate 24

Kuttawa, KY – One westbound lane of Interstate 24 in Western Kentucky
remains closed as a precaution, after Sunday's chemical
fire in a truck. The fire occurred on Sunday afternoon
near Kuttawa.

A Kentucky State Trooper and four Kuttawa firefighters
were treated for exposure to the chemical dibutyl-amino-
ethanol, which is used in the manufacture of pesticides.
Two other people near the accident site were sent to
local hospitals for treatment.

Hardin County Student Charged with Threatening

Radcliff, KY – A Middle school student in Hardin County has been
charged with terroristic threatening. Police say the
younster took a gun to school.

School officials say the boy is an eighth grade
student at Bluegrass Middle School. He faces
a hearing on Thursday and could be expelled.
