Kentucky Senate Rejects Expanded Gambling Bill

Governor Steve Beshear’s expanded gambling amendment has failed in the state Senate. The measure would have allowed for a public vote on whether to legalize casinos in the state. It fell seven votes short of the 23 it needed to move to the House. The shortfall was due largely to fractures in the Democratic caucus. The bill’s primary sponsor, Republican Senator Damon Thayer, says he’s finished with the issue after nine years of working on it.

Kentucky Supreme Court to Hear Redistricting Case Friday

The Kentucky Supreme Court

The Supreme Court of Kentucky has announced that it will hear oral arguments in the legislative re-districting case in the state Friday morning, February 24th,  starting at ten a.m., Eastern time. Oral aruments will be presented about the constitutionality of the General Assembly's redrawing of state legislative districts.

Stumbo Wants Morehead State Records After School Opposes His Bill

Kentucky House Speaker Greg Stumbo is asking for spending records of Morehead State University's President and Regents.  Stumbo filed an Open Records Act request February 17 seeking the travel expenses and other records of President Wayne Andrews, his staff, and the 11 members of the Morehead Board of Regents.

Rand Paul Says it Would be an Honor to be Considered for Vice President

Kentucky's junior US Senator says he would be honored if GOP Presidential candidate Mitt Romney considered him as a possible running mate. Earlier this year Senator Paul said he wouldn't close the door on being a Vice-Presidential candidate. After a speech in Louisville today, he told reporters "it would be an honor to be considered."
