It’s the second night of celebrations in Owensboro as the city officially reopens its downtown Smothers Park to the public. What those attending Friday’s events will see is a riverfront area that has received a complete facelift.
A three-day celebration gets underway Thursday evening in Owensboro as the city reopens Smothers Park, a major part of a years-long downtown revitalization effort. The Col. Charles E. Shelton memorial is being rededicated at 7 p.m.
A pin oak tree is being planted at the Western Kentucky Botanical Garden in memory of Elvis Presley on the 35th anniversary of his death. The tree was donated by Nancy Brown, who told the Messenger-Inquirer she picked up a handful of acorns on one of her many visits to Graceland.
Daviess County Fiscal Court has voted to allow a company's request to rezone 700 acres of land for coal mining. However, both supporters and opponents of the move say the issue isn't settled yet.
