An occupancy permit could be granted Tuesday for a Tennessee mosque that’s been at the center of controversy. A final inspection was scheduled for Tuesday morning at the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro, and congregation leaders say they hope to hold their first prayers in the new facility this week.

Opponents of a Tennessee mosque are trying to challenge a federal court ruling that overturned their victory in a local court. Plaintiffs have filed a motion against the mosque, the county’s zoning resolution, and the local government.

A Tennessee judge says a federal court ruling for a Muslim congregation fighting to open its new mosque short-circuited his intention to stop construction. The Associated Press obtained orders filed Friday by Chancellor Robert Corlew in Murfreesboro.
