The leader of an infantry brigade combat team stationed at Fort Knox is relinquishing command of the brigade at a ceremony tomorrow morning. But he’s not going far.
In fact, Col. Chris Toner is going from one Kentucky military installation to another.
The Kansas native has led the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division for the past three years. He was responsible for helping move the Brigade from Fort Hood, Texas to Fort Knox after the Brigade’s first deployment to Afghanistan.
The Department of Defense has announced four units--including two from Ft. Campbell, Ky--will deploy to Afghanistan this year. The scheduled rotation involves more than 11,000 soldiers from the four units that will start deploying between spring and winter.
