Two Dead, Six Hurt in Crash on Natcher Parkway

The Kentucky News Network is reporting two people died and six others were hurt in a crash on the Natcher Parkway in Ohio County. Kentucky State Trooper Corey King says an SUV driven by Lian Awi ran off the road Monday morning and overturned. Two people were ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.

Six others, including Awi, were taken by ambulance or helicopter to hospitals in Kentucky, Tennessee and Indiana.

All the victims are from Burma, also known as Myanmar, and do not speak English.

Awi has been charged with manslaughter, assault and DUI.

Kentucky State Police say 14 people died in 11 separate crashes over the long Memorial Day weekend. Last year there were two fatalities over the same time.

Lieutenant David Jude says seven of this year's highway deaths involved alcohol, seven with no seat belts, six involving motorcycles and four of those weren't wearing helmets.
