Number of Kentuckians Impacted by Facebook Security Breach: 'We Don't Know Yet'

Kentucky residents who use Facebook are among 50 million people asking if their personal information is part of what may be a massive breach of privacy. Kentucky Attorney General Andy Beshear said  he’s trying to find out.

The British political consulting firm Cambridge Analytica got information on 50 million Facebook users apparently targeted to influence voters in the 2016 election.

Kentucky Attorney General Andy Beshear said he is one of 37 state law enforcement officials who sent a letter the social media giant in an attempt to shed light on the massive security breach.

“We have joined with other attorneys general, a bipartisan group, asking Facebook for answers. Because beyond any of the political stuff this is guised in, this is a data security issue for over 50 million people, and for them to trust Facebook it's very important that their information is protected."

There’s a troubling question Facebook users are asking. Do we have a general idea of how many from Kentucky had their personal information taken? Beshear said, "We don’t yet, but one of the things we will all be requesting is number of impacted people in our state.”

The Federal Trade Commission confirmed this week it’s investigating the possible misuse of the personal information gathered from Facebook.
