Joe Corcoran

Morning Edition host; Reporter/Producer

Joe Corcoran has been WKU Public Radio’s “Morning Edition” host and news anchor since 2003. Joe’s received numerous awards for his on-air work including the Associated Press’s “Best Radio News Anchor in Kentucky” twice. Several of his stories have aired on NPR’s “All Things Considered”.

A graduate of Syracuse University, Joe spent most of his career in television journalism both on-air and in management at stations in North Carolina, Iowa and Illinois.

In Bowling Green, Joe is active in his church as well as with the Bowling Green Area of Commerce.

He and his wife Patricia are the proud parents of three children and the “extremely” proud grandparents of one granddaughter.

Two Dead, Six Hurt in Crash on Natcher Parkway

The Kentucky News Network is reporting two people died and six others were hurt in a crash on the Natcher Parkway in Ohio County. Kentucky State Trooper Corey King says an SUV driven by Lian Awi ran off the road Monday morning and overturned. Two people were ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.

Gatton Academy Director Says All of Kentucky Should Be Proud of #1 Ranking

The Executive Director of the Gatton Academy for Science and Math at Western Kentucky University says their recent number one ranking in the country is good news for the entire Commonwealth.

Dr. Julia Roberts was a guest on WKU Public Radio's "Morning Edition" this morning with Joe Corcoran.

Newsweek magazine has named the Carol Martin Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science at WKU as the nation's top high school.

Autopsy Concludes Henderson Shooting a Homicide

A preliminary autopsy report concludes Michelle Cotter died from a single gunshot wound and her manner of death was a homicide.The 39 year old Henderson and Daviess County school employee was found shot in her home early Tuesday morning. She later died at a local hospital. Her husband, 36 year old Steven Cotter, remains hospitalized at St. Mary's Medical Center after police used a taser to subdue him at the scene.

Tourism Spending Up in Ten County Area

The ten-county Caves, Lakes and Corvettes Region saw an increase of 3.7% in direct tourism expenditures in 2011 equaling nearly $340 million. The increase added an overall amount of nearly $534 million in total expenditures to the region's economy.
