Dan Modlin

Dan Modlin served as News Director at WKU Public Radio for 23 years, and retired in early 2013. He's a native of Indiana who grew up in a broadcasting family.  A graduate of Ball State University, he worked for several years in the news network business in the Midwest, specializing in agricultural and political coverage, before coming to WKU Public Radio. His reports have earned numerous national  and state  awards for documentary production, public affairs reporting, and enterprise reporting. Dan continues to co-host Barren River Breakdown.

Six Million Dollar Settlement Announced

The office of Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway says $6 million has been recovered from Merck and Company in a lawsuit filed against pharmaceutical companies. Its the latest in a series of settlements over so-called "average wholesale price" cases. The suits allege that defendent drug companies published false and inflated average wholesale prices for their products, which didn't bear any relationship to the prices actually charged to customers.

Bosniak Convention Coming to Bowling Green

The annual Bosniak Convention in the U-S will be held in Warren County, Kentucky this Memorial Day Weekend. Organizers of the event estimate  about 15,000 visitors will come to Bowling Green for the weekend's activities. WKU will be coordinating some educational activities in conjunction with the Bosniak Convention.

Flags at Half Staff Today in Honor of Fallen Peace Officers

Governor Steve Beshear has ordered that flags fly at half staff at all state office buildings in Kentucky today, in recognition of Peace Officers Memorial Day.  The flags will be at half staff from sunrise to sunset in the Commonwealth.

Mortgage Division Filing Chapter Eleven

The mortgage division of a company which used to be the financing arm of General Motors Company is filing for bankruptcy protection. Ally Financial's mortgage division is known as Rescap.The government-owned lender had reportedly been considering a chapter eleven filing for Rescap for some time.

Increased Seat Belt Enforcement to Start Soon

Law Enforcement Officials in Kentucky are making preparations for this year's "Click it or Ticket" campaign, which is scheduled to start on May 20th. Although seat belt use has increased in the Commonwealth in recent years, more than fifty percent of the people killed in traffic accidents in the state aren't wearing seat belts at the time of their accidents. Greg Dennison of the Office of Highway Safety and Captain Steve Stratton of the Logan County Sheriff's Department talk with WKU Public Radio.
