Dan Modlin served as News Director at WKU Public Radio for 23 years, and retired in early 2013. He's a native of Indiana who grew up in a broadcasting family.  A graduate of Ball State University, he worked for several years in the news network business in the Midwest, specializing in agricultural and political coverage, before coming to WKU Public Radio. His reports have earned numerous national  and state  awards for documentary production, public affairs reporting, and enterprise reporting. Dan continues to co-host Barren River Breakdown.

Election Fraud Hotline Reports Calls from Four Kentucky Counties

The Kentucky Attorney General's Election Fraud Hotline is open from 6am until 7pm today, to accept calls about possible election fraud.  The  Office of the Attorney General, by law, cannot provide details regarding specific complaints or possible pending investigations. However, the Office has revealed that calls were  received from four counties this morning.

Bosniak Convention Scheduled for This Weekend

Tourism officials say ten to fifteen thousand visitors are expected in Bowling Green for the National Bosniak Convention, which will be held Memorial Day weekend. Organizers of the event say it is usually held in larger cities, such as St. Louis or Toronto.

Last Defendant in Marijuana Ring Sentenced

The final of six defendants charged in connection with a marijuana ring  that spanned from Mexico to Texas to Kentucky will serve ten years in prison. Exsaul Silva-Garcia of McAllen Texas was convicted in February on charges of possession with intent to distribute over 1,000 kilograms of marijuana.

Seat Belt Campaign about to Start

"Click it or Ticket" Campaign Underway

The annual seat belt enforcement campaign known as "Click it or Ticket" officially gets underway on May 21st.  Law enforcement officials hope to help save lives by cracking down on those who fail to use their seat belts. Law enforcement officials in Kentucky say about 58 percent of the people killed on the state's roadways in recent months weren't wearing seat belts at the time of their accidents. Transportation Cabinet Secretary Mike Hancock says the state "undoubtedly experiences far too many fatalities that could have been avoided with the simple use of a seat belt."

Kentucky Ag Commissioner to Visit Schools to Promote Healthy Food

State Agriculture Commissioner James Comer has scheduled visits to six Kentucky schools next week, to promote child nutrition and healthier lunches. Comer says fresh produce from local farms should be on the menus in schools in the bluegrass state.
