Dan Modlin served as News Director at WKU Public Radio for 23 years, and retired in early 2013. He's a native of Indiana who grew up in a broadcasting family.  A graduate of Ball State University, he worked for several years in the news network business in the Midwest, specializing in agricultural and political coverage, before coming to WKU Public Radio. His reports have earned numerous national  and state  awards for documentary production, public affairs reporting, and enterprise reporting. Dan continues to co-host Barren River Breakdown.

Law enforcement officers across Kentucky have boosted patrols for the Labor Day weekend, with a special emphasis on getting impaired drivers off the road. Trooper Michael Webb of the Public Affairs Branch of the Kentucky State Police says the campaign involves a zero tolerance patrol.

Active Job Search now Required for Unemployment Benefits in Tennessee

Effective September 1st, anyone claiming unemployment benefits in the state of Tennessee will be required to show that they are actively looking for work.  A work search log must be maintained to verify the job-seeking activity.

TVA Stresses Need to Manage Vegetation Effectively

The Tennessee Valley Authority is hoping to increase public awareness about right-of-way maintenance procedures that are designed to promote safety and reduce the chance of a power outage occurring. The TVA says the "border zone" area next to transmission lines is being surveyed on a regular basis, to help identify any vegetation that could cause problems.

Crews to Shift Traffic on Busy Interchange in Warren County

Motorists are advised to use caution and reduce speed when they travel across the Scottsville Road/US231 interchange Thursday night. Crews will be shifting traffic for both north and southbound directions on the bridge deck, between the hours of 8:00pm Thursday and 6:00 am Friday.

Governor Beshear Names New Chief of Staff

Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear has appointed Larry Bond to serve as his Chief of Staff. Bond will fill the position previously held by Mike Haydon, who passed away earlier this month.
