Kentucky Lawmakers May Change How New Ohio River Bridges are Funded

The Kentucky Senate is proposing a change in funding for the Ohio River Bridges Project. Governor Steve Beshear's road budget calls for $50 million in spending on new bridges and reconfigured highway interchanges in Louisville. Both the House and Beshear favor using a mix of bonds and federal highway maintenance funds to do so.

Use of Coal Severance Tax Money Appears to be Major Hurdle for Kentucky Budget Negotiators

Kentucky lawmakers will spend much of the last full week of the legislative session trying to hatch a compromise on budget bills. So far, lawmakers have looked line by line at differences between the House and Senate budget plans. They're looking for changes one side or the other is willing to accept without debate.

Regional Meetings to be Held to Discuss Teacher Quality

Citizens in ten communities across Kentucky will be participating Tuesday evening  in discussion groups and viewing a ninety minute movie titled, "American Teacher." The activity is sponsored by a number of advocacy groups, including the Kentucky Association for School Superintendents, the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, the Kentucky School Boards Association, and the Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence. Organizers say they hope to spur discussion about the importance of placing and retaining excellent teachers in the classroom.

Kentucky Farmers Say They've Had to "Gamble" in Face of High Temperatures

It’s another warm, early spring day on the farm of Joe O’Daniel, whose 116 acre property sits off of Cemetery Road, heading out of Bowling Green. He says signs of this year’s short winter and early, warm spring are all around him. While it’s not that uncommon to have a few 80 degree days in late winter or early spring, this year’s numerous warm days and have challenged O'Daniel to find ways to unload a larger-than-usual bounty of early spring crops.

Negotiators Start Talks over State Budget

Negotiators for the Senate and House have started talks to work out disagreements on spending priorities for a new state budget in Kentucky. A group of Representatives and Senators held their initial meeting this morning on the two year, 19.5 billion dollar budget.
