Classical Music Poetry Contest 2006
Western’s Public Radio and the Law Firm of Harned, Bachert and Denton are pleased to host the 11th Annual Classical Music Poetry Contest. Hundreds of students have participated over the years, and the quality of the entries is always inspiring. Our hope is that the contest will also inspire in the participants a life-long love of music. All middle and high school students (grades 7 through 12) in the listening area are invited to enter by writing a poem inspired by one of two pieces of classical music. The musical selections will be featured throughout April on Western’s Public Radio (see below for broadcast times). The contest is an annual event held in April, which is observed nationally as Classical Music Month. Winning poems will be published in our monthly program guide Choice, and featured on the website.
First and second place winners will be chosen in two grade categories and will receive $200 or $100 respectively in U.S. Savings Bonds. |

How to enter: Contestants choose one of the following classical music selections as the basis for their poem. Poems should reflect the thoughts and feelings inspired by the music, and do not have to relate to information about the composers or the titles of the pieces played. Each year we choose pieces that contrast with each other--generally one will be very upbeat, the other more subdued. Both selections can be heard together on Western's Public Radio several times during April (broadcast times are listed below): Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Rondo Ralph Vaughan Williams: Hymn Prelude
