ASSISTANT
Western Kentucky University, Public
Broadcasting Development is seeking applications for a full-time Office
Assistant. This position will report to the Director of Development
for Public Broadcasting. This is a grant funded position continued
employment is subject to availability of funds.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for data entry necessary to
maintain membership information for Western’s Public Broadcasting to
include word processing, preparing forms, filing, bulk mailing management,
and other basic functions to support the fund raising and outreach efforts
of Public Broadcasting.
Required Qualifications:

High School Diploma, plus one
year related experience

Must have excellent
communication and organizational skills

Must have excellent computer
skills

Ability to work in a team

Must have a strong work ethic

Must be self-motivated and
energetic

Must have a valid driver’s
license

Must be able to work weekends
and evenings.

Requires database maintenance
and entry with long periods of computer concentration.

Ability to operate a variety of
office machines and software

Ability to effectively manage
multiple projects simultaneously.
Desired/Preferred Qualifications:

One year related experience in
public broadcasting/non-profit fundraising
·
Associate or Bachelor’s Degree
·
Knowledge and understanding of
Public Broadcasting’s mission and service area
Salary Grade: 104 Expected
Salary Range: $1,602.00 - $2,146.00 per month

BUSINESS MANAGER
Western Kentucky University, Department of Educational Telecommunications, is seeking applicants for a Business Manager. This is a full-time position reporting to the Director of Educational Telecommunications. Anticipated start date is September, 2008.
Responsibilities:
- Financial management of Educational Telecommunications to include planning, organizing, analyzing, forecasting, and recordkeeping of overall financial operations of WKYU-FM, WKYU-TV, HSSN, Communications and Broadcasting ETV and Student Television Services.
- Organizes and prepares schedules for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) Annual Financial Reports and statements mandated of recipients of federal funds.
- Provides accurate and timely information required for annual CPB audits of station federal grants.
- Prepares the annual SABS (Station Activities Benchmarking Survey) which is mandated of recipients of federal funds.
- Provides financial and administrative assistance to the Director of Educational Telecommunications and the Station Managers for Public Radio and Television.
- Supervises Office Associate and Student Assistant. Manages, communicates, evaluations, supervises payroll submissions, purchase procurements, maintains public files, and all aspects of the successful management of the offices.
- Serves as member of Senior Staff for Educational Telecommunications. Participates in organizing, planning, developing, and implementing policies, procedures and goals for department.
- Analyzes and prepares semi-annual “Statement of Account for Secondary Transmissions by Cable Systems,” to determine copyright liability.
- Facilities recording and recordkeeping of fundraising activities to include membership and underwriting. Oversees 3 or 4 major fund drives per year for radio, with funds coming from on-air, on-line, and by phone. Accuracy and timeliness of records for fundraising activities is critical to the overall operation.
- Other duties as deemed necessary.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business or related field, plus 3 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience; 10 years experience in accounting or bookkeeping may be considered in lieu of degree and the minimum experience requirement.
- Proven excellent financial and analytical abilities
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills required to effectively deal with the public, university departments, and Educational Telecommunication staff
- Ability to manage multiple tasks
- Proficiency with Excel
- Ability to work as a member of a team in a professional and collegial manner.
Desired/Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with and understanding of Corporation for Public Broadcasting financial reporting requirements, restrictions and audits
- Experience with and understanding of Corporation for Public Broadcasting annual Station Activities Benchmarking Survey (SABS)
- Experience in financial administration of grants
- Experience with Banner Financial System
- Experience in finance in a university setting
- Experience with and knowledge of public broadcasting
Salary Grade: 108 Expected Salary Range: $39,960.00 - $43,824.00 annually
